Of nearly 29,000 missing children reported to NCMEC, 93% were children who ran away.
74% of Endangered Runaways reported were between 15-17 years old.
Risk factors play an important role. 87% of these children who ran away had one or more risk factors.
The risk factors for running away are multifaceted, and there is no typical Endangered Runaway. They risk factors may be a result of individual, family, societal or environmental factors. Risk factors may be interconnected.
Data shows that 1 of 7 children who run away are likely to become victims of child sex trafficking.
The average age of child sex trafficking victims is 12-14. Boys are as likely as girls to be sex trafficked. However, they are less likely to be identified and reported. Boys are frequently victims of both labor and sex exploitation.
